MARCH 11, 2020. BY LODI WINEGRAPE COMMISSION.
NOTE – MEETING IS POSTPONED TO THURSDAY, AUGUST 27th or APRIL 2021. Same venue, timing, and format! If you already RSVP’d for April 9th, we have you on the list for the future meeting.
Please join your fellow Lodi growers, PCAs, and others on (possibly) Thursday, August 27th, 2020 for the third and final MEALYBUG & VIRUS OUTREACH MEETING! This year’s meeting builds upon knowledge gained over the past few years, with new speakers and local management examples. Be sure to RSVP (details below) as lunch is provided. Everyone is welcome and the event is FREE to attend thanks to grant funding from the American Vineyard Foundation and the CDFA PD/GWSS Board. We’ll be passing out copies of our virus grower workbook – WHAT EVERY WINEGROWER SHOULD KNOW: VIRUSES – for the first time.
Grapevine viruses are expensive, complicated, and confusing, but HELP is on the way. The upcoming Lodi Mealybug & Virus Outreach Meeting will provide timely, relevant information on red blotch virus, leafroll virus, virus management, mealybugs, replanting after a virus infection, the sudden vine collapse, and regional cooperation. This workshop is the result of intense studies by Lodi’s Mealybug Biocontrol and Grapevine Virus Research Focus Groups comprised of volunteer growers, PCAs, scientists, extension personnel, and industry leaders who gather monthly to discuss short and long term strategies to solve our mealybug & virus challenges. Held at the Cabral Ag Center in Stockton, you’ll learn real-world management tips from special guests Dr. Kent Daane (Entomologist, UC), Chris Storm (Director of Viticulture, Vino Farms), Charlie Starr IV (PCA and Lodi grower), Dr. Maher Al Rwahnih (Plant Virologist, UC), Dr. Neil McRoberts (Plant Pathology Epidemiologist, UC), and Dr. William Schneider (canine detection expert, F1K9). Attendees will have time to interact with various professionals from the virus testing labs, nurseries, and mealybug biocontrol companies. It’s imperative that everyone in our industry – growers, PCAs, nurseries, laboratories, wineries, lawmakers, & more – becomes EDUCATED about the virus situation so that we can continue to produce profitable, quality winegrapes in California.
