MONDAY, MARCH 27, 2023. BY CORINNE BUTLER, CAL POLY SLO.

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING IN A REGENERATIVE AG RESEARCH PROJECT WITH CAL POLY SLO?

Cal Poly SLO is working with UC Davis on a project funded by FFAR (Foundation for Food and Agriculture) and CDFA (California Department of Food and Agriculture) to determine the impacts of long-term regenerative agricultural practices on carbon sequestration and soil health in red grape varietal vineyards across California.

The regenerative practices include compost, cover crop, no-till, and livestock grazing. Cal Poly SLO is looking for two types of participants:

Lodi growers with red grape varietal vineyards that have adopted one or more of these practices (compost, cover crop, no-till, and livestock grazing) for five years or more.

Lodi growers with red grape varietal vineyards that have not adopted any of these practices (compost, cover crop, no-till, and livestock grazing) for 10 years or more.

To participate, you will need to take composite soil samples of vineyard block(s) with the above practices and send them to Cal Poly SLO. A survey will also need to be filled out to understand more details about the vineyard block(s) of interest. There will be no fees. Samples will be collected and sent to Cal Poly SLO in April. The soil will be tested for multiple soil health indicators and the data will be sent back to you when it is analyzed.

If you are interested in participating in this study, please contact Corinne Butler at cebutler@calpoly.edu.
