Soil Road Show (4/17)

April 17, 2014 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

Soil Roadshow

April 17th
8:00am -12:00pm

Lodi winegrapes are planted on a wide range of soil types, each with different characteristics and requiring different vineyard management considerations. The Soil Roadshow will visit soil pits in three soil types: Tokay soil on the Lange Twins property near Galt, San Joaquin soil at the Liberty Winery, and Redding soil on Nestor Enterprises property in Bordon Ranch. UC Farm Adviser Paul Verdegaal and UC soil scientist Toby O’Geene will talk about the soils, their defining characteristics, and relevant vineyard management implications. Lunch will be served at the last stop.

Location: The first soil pit visit will be on Lower Sacramento Road about 1/4 mile north of E. Jahant Rd. Traveling north on Lower Sacramento Road, after passing E. Jahant Rd and immediately after going over the Jahant Slough, the meeting location will be on the left (west) side of the road. Look for the LoCA sign. Take the access road to get to the site. Call Matthew Hoffman at (209) 200-1803 with
questions. Directions to the second and third soil pits will be provided.

Please RSVP to Molly Bjork by April 14th at
molly@lodiwine.com or (209) 367-4727.
