HIGH CORDON TAILGATE TALK

September 20, 2017 @ 7:30 am - 9:30 am

HIGH CORDON TRELLISING TRIAL TAILGATE TALK.

Date: Wednesday, September 20th, 2017

Time: 7:30 am – 9:30 am

Venue: Kautz Farms (about 0.6 of a mile south of Armstrong Rd; on Live Oak Rd, about 0.75 miles on right-hand side across from Kautz Farms field offices with the palm tree bordered planting of Petit Verdot)

Presenters: Paul Verdegaal (UCCE), Joe Valente (Kautz Farms), and Keith Striegler (Gallo)

Cost: FREE, coffee and donuts provided

Description: With advances in MECHANIZATION and increased labor costs, more growers are exploring higher production and mechanized trellising systems. In 2011, a replicated trial was planted in a sandy loam vineyard with Cabernet Sauvignon to compare four trellis systems: 1. high cordon optimized for machine pruning, 2. horizontally divided canopy (quad cordon, spur pruned), 3. horizontally divided canopy (cane pruned), and 4. standard bilateral cordon (T-top trellis, spur pruned). We’ll look at the vines, evaluate and taste the grapes, and discuss the PROS and CONS for each system, as investigated over the past six years, with time for questions.

RSVP: If you can – we know you are busy with harvest! Contact the Lodi Winegrape Commission by phone 209.367.4727 or email lwwc@lodiwine.com.
